Taryn is the main protagonist of the Fairy Eater series.

Appearance

Taryn is a girl with medium length dark brown hair with bangs that fall in between her eyes. She typically wears vintage clothing pieces that are layered to make her thin figure look less malnourished. She has pale, ghostly skin with dark circles around her brown eyes.

History

Not much is known about Taryn's past prior to being left at an orphanage when she was little. In the years that followed, she was sent from orphanage to orphanage because her condition often made her attack the other children when she was threatened. Despite being a good reader, she was unable to concentrate much in school. Because of this, she did not pursue further education than what was required of her, setting out to find work so she could survive on her own. At one point, she was unemployed and homeless, which was a period in her life that affected her greatly, as she often remembers that experience during moments of hardship to encourage herself to improve her situation. She eventually found stable living conditions in a run-down townhouse, where she lived in the attic. When she arrived, she happened upon a collection of antique clothing pieces in a trunk, which hence became her personal wardrobe.

Personality

Taryn is a wary individual, though she has a kind heart. Despite her tumultuous upbringing, she remains vigilant instead of timid. She is a hard worker and is resourceful when she needs to be, which proves to be very helpful when in a difficult predicament. She is inherenly sweet to people, especially those she recognizes are struggling in ways she can understand. Though she is friendly and personable when she is comfortable, though she is easily dissuaded when confronted by someone or something she deems to be a threat. She is plagued with a deep desire to achieve satiation for her hunger, but finds ways to tolerate the discomfort so she can persist, which makes her resilience even more evident. She has a strong sense of justice and does not turn away from the hardships of others, wanting to do anything in her ability to help them, even at her own detriment.

Trivia

- Taryn was originally supposed to have green eyes, but this was scrapped because it was decided that brown eyes would look more frightening whenever Taryn's hunger overtook her, as her pupils become large and almost completely cover her irises.

- She was originally only going to be mildly hungry within the story, with doctors examining her to deduce what the origin of her condition was, but this was also scrapped. This also goes along with Taryn originally having a mother she lived with.

- One of her biggest insecurities is her "large hands," but her hands only appear to be large due to her malnourished appearance, making her wrists look smaller in comparison.

- Taryn was designed to look like a model, as the earliest drawings of her featured her in couture designs.
